Leadership of Place
Using research to Create a sense of place and belonging in schools

This research and development project is a partnership between the IOE and London schools. It focuses on the notion of leadership of place and has been designed to improve the learning experience of young people and their learning outcomes, by drawing on an action research and collaborative learning approach.
The project has very clear priorities:
- To develop the leadership knowledge and skills of staff at many levels and layers in the participating schools, by carrying out action research which explores the practice of leadership of place;
- To gain an understanding of the nature and impact of place and how it is experienced both positively and negatively;
- To develop the research and inquiry skills of a group of young people from each participating school as researchers in the project and extend their written skills by writing about their research and developing
higher level thinking;
- To maximise the impact of the project by creating a professional learning community for participating schools - with strong networks and connections across London - which aims to share the knowledge and understanding gained in the project, nationally and internationally.
